About

My name is Abigail Bachman, and I am a graduate of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Disability Services. Currently, I am a student at Touro University Nevada pursuing a Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy. After graduation, I hope to work in a pediatric outpatient facility providing early intervention. My cousin, Jake, was diagnosed with autism at a very young age and I have personally witnessed the effect that early intervention services has had on his life.  As an adult in his late twenties, he is able to work semi independently.

Since 2016, I have made efforts to promote Early Autism Awareness. One way I have done this is to meet with early childcare providers, parents and Mommy and Me playgroups to provide information about the early signs of Autism. I also focus on the difficult discussion between childcare providers and parents if symptoms are observed. My hope is that this website will provide information and resources available in Nevada and Pennsylvania for parents and early childcare workers. Early detection leads to early intervention which allows a child to get the help and therapy they need to reach his or her full potential. I have worked with legislators in Pennsylvania to introduce House Bill 1687 which will mandate autism screening in preschools and daycares statewide.

I am currently the state director for the Nevada Miss Amazing chapter. Nevada Miss Amazing is a nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for girls and women with special needs to build confidence and self-esteem skills. Nevada has not had a Miss Amazing chapter for a number of years, so I wanted to bring this program back to the Silver State. Our Amplify event is an educational program that teaches self-advocacy skills for girls and women ages 5 and older, in a fun environment with real stakes. It has been an honor working alongside likeminded volunteers.

When I am not busy working on behalf of those with autism and women with disabilities, working or attending classes, I enjoy spending time with family, friends and my dog, Tucker as well as being involved in Best Buddies E-Buddy Program. I am a certified Zumba instructor and exercise regularly. I grew up on a small farm and helped my family raise steer. I love the outdoors, dancing, swimming and reading poetry.
